THE HONORABLE JUDGE MILTON HIRSCH WILL BE PRESENTING TO LAW STUDENTS THE FOLLOWING TRAINING SESSION: The Adult Criminal Justice System's Relationship With Sex Trafficking Victims, Witnesses and Offenders

Arrests

  • discretion of police officers
  • procedures and notifications for adults and youth
  • holding facilities and detention determinations

Charging

  • discretion of state and obligations of state
  • consideration of conduct and the relationship to the degree of offense charged
  • existence and access to specialized services for youth and vulnerable arrestees needing immediate interventions

Court involvement

  • procedure of a criminal and juvenile justice matter
  • detention limitations and decision-making
  • conditions of confinement
  • access to youth in custody and services available there

Outcomes

  • Services available to incarcerated people who may be convicted of a low level or more severe sex-related crime
  • facilities and institutions around the state to hold offenders
  • youth facilities and services available
  • impact of convictions, agreements and pleas on record and employability
  • access to services as convicted person including housing, financial aid for school, and other citizenship issues
